Tutorial Schizophrenia (refer notes).
Jake is a 35 yr old male with 15 yr history of schizophrenia and rarely symptom free. During his admission, several different AP have been used but little improvement has been seen. The consultant psychiatrist thinks clozapine is indicated and asks for your advice. Jake’s current medications for schizophrenia are:
-Risperidone 10mg on
-Chlorpromazine 100mg tds
1. (a) Comment on the current medications with his current condition.
(b) What is mechanism of action of risperidone and chlorpromazine.
(c) Explain briefly on options of treatment strategy in treatment resistant shchizophrenia.
(d) The consultant suggesting clozapine for this patient. What is your concern or advice about clozapine use in this patient. Name 4 side effects of clozapine.
